Baking Normal Maps -- High to Low Polygon Models

7.  Set high polygon mesh shading to Flat
  • Select high polygon model
  • Object Mode:  3D View menu >> Mode box >> Object Mode
  • Tool Shelf  >> Edit >> Shading >> Flat
8.  Open the Properties tab
  • 3D View menu >> View >> Properties
  • The next step is to check the direction of the normals
  • The normals for the low and high versions of your model should face in the same direction (inside or outside)
  • The settings to show the normals are located in the Properties tab
9.  Check the direction of the low polygon model normals
  • Select low poly model
  • 3D View menu >> Mode box >> Edit Mode
  • Properties tab >> Mesh Display >> Normals >> Faces
